Availability of new ANSYS Software Release 2019 R1 on LRZ Linux Cluster Computers

Effectively from the beginning of February 2019 the new ANSYS Software Release 2019 R1 has been made available on the LRZ Linux Clusters CoolMUC-2/-3 and IvyMUC. The software installation includes the entire ANSYS software package, while the usage on LRZ Linux Cluster Computers currently focusses on ANSYS Structural Mechanics, the fluid mechanics applications ANSYS CFX and ANSYS Fluent as well as the corresponding pre- and postprocessing tools (Workbench Meshing, ICEM/CFD, CFD-Post, Ensight, Fluent Meshing & Postprocessing, etc.) which can primarily be used on the Remote Visualization Systems (RVS) and on the upcoming systems of the LRZ Compute Cloud. Other applications from the ANSYS software package can be made available on request.

The software packages can be used by activating the corresponding modules in the LRZ module system, named with module name postfix “/2019.R1” due to the changed ANSYS Release naming convention. At the same time the new ANSYS Release 2019 R1 has been made the new default software version on the LRZ Linux Clusters. Older versions remain available, but need to be used with their specifically named module names, e.g. cfx/18.2.

If you like to know more about the newly developed and released software features of the recent ANSYS Software Releases, please take note and save the date for the ANSYS Software Technology Day, 27. February 2019, which takes place in the Auditorium Building of LRZ and which will be jointly organized by the CFD & HPC experts from LRZ (Dr. Th. Frank, Dr. M. Ohlerich, Dr. F. Jamitzky, Dr. J. Dreer) and CADFEM GmbH (Dr. J. Bernsdorf & Dr. C. Steinbeck-Behrens). The ANSYS Technology Day @ LRZ provides a unique opportunity to meet and ask the experts your most pressing questions regarding the usage of the ANSYS software on the LRZ Computer Systems and about the latest developments in the ANSYS software itself.
The Workshop is open for registration until 15. February 2019 on the corresponding LRZ Web Page. Please note, that the tour to the SuperMUC-NG and to the V2C Virtualization and Visualization Lab is only available for registered participants.

Datenschutz-Tag 2019 / 79.

Introduction to Semantic Patching of C programs with Coccinelle

We are pleased to announce that the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre will offer a new course "Introduction to Semantic Patching of C programs with Coccinelle" for advanced C/C++ programmers.

Date & Location

Thursday, April 4, 2019, 10:00 - 17:00
Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Garching near Munich, Boltzmannstr. 1, Kursraum 2, H.U.010

Course Description

The maintenance of a large software project can be very demanding. External factors like evolving third-party software library APIs, or constantly changing hardware platforms might require significant code adaptions for the code to run efficiently, or to run at all. Failure in coping with this can lead to obsolescence, loss of performance, incompatibility, vendor lock-in, bugs.

Have you ever wondered how to detect and manipulate specified classes of C code constructs, be it for code analysis, or better, to restructure an arbitrarily large codebase according to a specified, non-trivial `pattern', without writing a C compiler?

In this training we introduce you to a tool to do exactly this: match and restructure C codebases in a programmatic, formal way. The training will also show how to analyze code looking for interesting patterns (e.g. bugs), integrate with your Python scripts to achieve the custom transformations you need, and leverage Coccinelle's limited C++ support. Special attention will be on performance-oriented transformations, of other interests of HPC practitioners.

After this training, you shall be able to write your own code transformations, be it for a refactoring, performance improvement, paving the way to an experimental fork, or for debugging and further analysis.

Teacher

Dr. Michele Martone (LRZ)

Girls' Day 2019 am Leibniz-Rechenzentrum

https://www.girls-day.de/@/Show/leibniz-rechenzentrum-der-bayerischen-akademie-der-wissenschaften/girlsday-am-leibniz-rechenzentrum-virtuelles-3d-modell-zum-mitnehmen

Was euch beim Girls' Day 2019 am LRZ erwartet?
