A particular highlight was the presentation of the Bavarian Minister-President’s Honorary Award in the digitalisation category. This year, the award went to Prof. Dr. Dieter Kranzlmüller, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) and Professor of Computer Science at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universtität München (LMU).
Dr Söder said: “Bavaria is the number one high-tech region. For us, ‘digital first’ is the motto. And we honour those who are shaping this future.” This year’s Honorary Award winner, Prof. Dr Dieter Kranzlmüller, has provided outstanding service to Bavaria as a centre of science and digital innovation. As Director of the LRZ, he has expanded the world-class centre further since 2017, from the SuperMUC-NG and the Quantum Integration Centre to the new ‘Blue Lion’ supercomputer. This puts Bavaria at the forefront of global technology! Through our High-Tech Agenda, we are investing seven billion euros in the future, including in AI and quantum research. Scientists like Professor Kranzlmüller are the pioneers of our time. To him, digitalisation is not just about technology, but also about responsibility, ethics, and social cohesion. Congratulations and thank you for your dedication and vision!”
In his brief acceptance speech, Kranzlmüller emphasised the importance of ongoing support from the Bavarian State Government and the promotion of science and cutting-edge technology.
Other individuals were also honoured for their commitment alongside Kranzlmüller: Minister of State Dr Fabian Mehring honoured Ramona Meinzer (Aumüller Aumatic GmbH), Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gordon Thomas Rohrmair (Augsburg University of Applied Sciences), and Prof. Dr. Helmut Schönenberger (UnternehmerTUM) for their involvement in the MittelstandMacher initiative.
