MQV Einblicke - When Supercomputers Get a Quantum Boost

What roles do quantum computers play in supercomputing centers? What problems can be solved through the combination of classical high-performance computing (HPC) and quantum technologies? This is the focus of “MQV-Einblicke – Experience quantum science up close,” an event organized by Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) on December 8, 2026, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ).

In his presentation, LRZ specialist Dr. Stefan Huber will introduce the quantum technologies researchers are already using and clearly explain the fundamentals of quantum computing using ongoing projects and other examples. He will also discuss the challenges that the LRZ and its partners have overcome and continue to address in order to connect innovative quantum processors with supercomputers.

Participants can tour the LRZ’s quantum resources and learn about the sophisticated infrastructure that powers and cools the computers. In addition, the LRZ’s Quantum Integration Center will open its doors exclusively for this event, where staff members will discuss their work exploring and operating quantum computers.

Registration via the MQV is required. The LRZ lecture hall is wheelchair-accessible; unfortunately, the computer building is not. As an alternative, visitors can explore interesting technical exhibits on quantum computing in the LRZ foyer.
