CFD calculations in context of project "Propulsion Technologies for Green In-Orbit Spacecrafts" shall be performed. The first goal of the project on technologies for green space-craft propulsion is the identification of key system requirements including mission and mass and thermal management trade-offs. The second aim is the development of appropriate models for the thermo- and fluid dynamic behavior of the propellants under vacuum conditions and of a reliable ignition system for a satellite propulsion system burning green propellants to be used for orbital debris removal purposes. The availability of such suitable propulsion technology is an important precondition for the mentioned on-orbit servicing missions. The project will contribute to securing and generating relevant know-how that allows Bavaria and Germany to compete in this field also in the future on the European and world market. The proposed project is embedded in the Munich Aerospace research focus “Safety in Orbit” and interacts with the DFG SFB-TRR40, where rocket engine combustion is one of the research topics. The study of system requirements in the proposed project will interact closely with the UniBwM project “Safety in Orbit” and will contribute important results regarding thermal management to it. The thermodynamic and combustion issues studied here are close to the joint UniBwM-TUM task TP C1 within SFB-TRR40.
