Abstract:

Within this project, challenging problems in the fields of fluid-structure interaction with turbulent flows and optimal design of surface-coupled structures are solved and the corresponding algorithms are developed and improved. More specifically, the intended applications are mainly focused on civil engineering structures with regard to flow-induced effects due to wind and water flows. As usual in “Computational Wind Engineering” and “Computational Offshore Engineering”, the considered air or water flows are highly turbulent and therefore cause high numerical effort. Moreover, the considered problems typically involve distinct three-dimensionality and very complex geometries. Furthermore, for the tasks in shape optimal design, numerical methods are developed and applied, which take advantage of different parametrization techniques.
