We use population genetics statistical methods to study the evolution of plant genomes. We run genome studies based on Approximate Bayesian Computation and Monte Carlo Chain methods (MCMC) to estimate model parameter under the coalescent framework (Kingman and multiple merger coalescent theory) based on genomic data. The computation requires a high number of short parallelized jobs, and to this effect we would like to obtain access to the Linux LRZ cluster. During 2013-2014 we will work on estimating demographic and selective processes in maize landraces, and modern breeding lines within the Synbreed project at TUM. In particular, we wish to estimate the amount of purifying selection during domestication processes. we also work on estimating demographic events, natural selection and the existence of seed banks in wild tomato species originating in South-America. We also work on wild tomato species from South-America and study their adaptation to different environment using full genome polymorphism data. This means to extract the SNPs from teh genomes, and then develop inference methods (Byesian or likelihood) to estimate past demography and selection in the different populations.
