Abstract:

We will process neuroimaging data with FreeSurfer (https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki). FreeSurfer reconstructs T1-weighted magnetic resonance images from human subjects, yielding an automated segmentation of neuroanatomy. The processing of a single scan takes about one day. For datasets with hundreds of subjects we need a cluster to analyze the data because it would take too long on our own infrastructure. The segmentation of the scan forms the basis for the follow-up analysis with the BrainPrint. We introduced the BrainPrint as a more sensitive measure of morphology than standard volume-based analyses. The BrainPrint can be used for studying disease, where we have recently developed a classifier for the automated prediction of Alzheimer's disease https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27262241. In current research, we want to investigate the BrainPrint for predicting psychiatric disorders.
