Abstract
A lot of industrial application like gas-turbines or aeronautical engines are suscecpitle to thermo-acoustic instabilities. These have to be avoided at any cost since they may damage or even destroy the machinery. A typical thermo-acoustic instability phenomenon can be observed in combustion chambers when the combustion process is coupled to a hydrodynamic or mixing process via acoustic waves.Investigating the coupling phenomena between acoustics and reacting sprays is a difficult task due to the interaction of several phenomena (such as atomization, droplet collisions, heating and evaporating droplets, gas-liquid turbulence interaction) that occur over various temporal and spatial time scales. Therefore, spray combustion dynamics has been addressed only sparsely until now. The proposed research aims to investigate the thermo-acoustic instability phenomena caused by interactions between acoustic waves and liquid fuel spray combustions.
