Can I use the WLAN in the MWN with my smartphone?

iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

The VPN download area has a profile for eduroam for the iPhone and its relatives. See http://www.lrz.de/services/netz/mobil/802_1x/ipad_en. In the VPN download area (https://www.lrz.de/services/netz/mobil/vpnclient/) it is also possible to obtain a profile for the integrated IPsec VPN client and a profile for the AnyConnect client (through the AppStore).

Symbian S60

For Symbian S60 smartphones (such as Nokia E66 or 5800 express Music) a policy can no longer be issued after a change in the use policy at Symbiansigned.com. For access to the WLAN, please use eduroam http://www.lrz.de/services/netz/mobil/eduroam_en/.  If a VPN connection is necessary, products from ncp or Anthasoft can be obtained for a fee.

Symbian UIQ 3.0

Access to the WLAN is currently not possible for Symbian UIQ 3.0 devices (for example, Sony Ericsson), because although these devices support the protocols, they cannot connect to the access point if the WPA and WPA2 standard are both available at the same time. Although the firmware has been known to have this error for some time, Sony Ericsson has not yet taken steps to fix it.

VoIP over a smartphone

Because the WLAN networks are conducted over a NAT gateway, the client must be able to handle it. The LRZ does not block the ports needed for VoIP.

Blackberry

Android

The following instructions show how to set up a connection into the WLAN with the eduroam SSID using Android smartphones: http://www.lrz.de/services/netz/mobil/802_1x/android_en/. There is an AnyConnect VPN client for Samsung devices in the Android Market. There is also an AnyConnect VPN client there for "rooted" clients.

Bada OS
