Who should attend?

All users of the ANSYS software for engineering simulations in structural mechanics (CSM), computational fluid dynamics (CFD using CFX, Fluent, Discovery AIM and Discovery Live), electro-magnetic field computation (HFSS, Maxwell-3d) as well as systems simulation. In particular those ANSYS software users being interested to run the software on LRZ compute clusters and SuperMUC-NG. In addition, people interested in using the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and the product ROCKY DEM in the areas of process, fluid, and mechanical engineering for particle simulations with a focus on multi-CPU and GPU usage.

Focus of the ANSYS Technology Day:

On the occasion of the new 2019 R3 release of the ANSYS software, the LRZ, Garching and CADFEM GmbH, Grafing jointly present and organize an ANSYS Technology Day at the LRZ Auditorium Building. The focus of this ANSYS Technology Day on the Wednesday 06. November 2019 will be set primarily for ANSYS Mechanical and the following topics will be highlighted:

  • Introduction & Welcome  
  • Selection of Update Highlights with focus on ANSYS Workbench and ANSYS Mechanical
  • Working with faceted bodies from topology optimization or 3D scans
  • User-defined results in ANSYS Mechanical for result evaluations with special requirements
  • Introduction to ROCKY DEM, a sophisticated Discrete Element Method code for particle and real shape body simulations, including the coupling with ANSYS Mechanical and ANSYS Fluent
  • Introduction to LRZ HPC Systems and ANSYS Software on LRZ Linux Clusters and Supercomputers
  • Discussion, questions and answers.

During the final discussion and Q&A round you potentially may want to discuss your specific computational needs, your simulation requirements using ANSYS software at the LRZ facilities, your particular ANSYS model or your simulation idea with us. All this can be discussed together with the LRZ and CADFEM lecturers and with the participants of the ANSYS Technology Day. To enable this on a higher level, please feel free to contact Dr. Cord Steinbeck-Behrens and/or Dr. Thomas Frank in advance with your particular questions or points of interest and with the possibility to provide your ANSYS CSM/CFD model to them.

Tour to LRZ Compute Building and SuperMUC-NG:

After the Lecture Program at the ANSYS Technology Day the LRZ is offering the possibility of a guided tour to the LRZ computer building featuring the new SuperMUC-NG supercomputer, which is ranked in the new TOP500 list (June 2019) of world’s fastest supercomputers on rank number 9 and which is thereby the fastest supercomputer of all EU member states. Participants being interested in this guided tour to the SuperMUC-NG are kindly asked to register on this website in advance. The guided tour to SuperMUC-NG will start at approx. 4:00 pm and will last for approx. 1 hour.
