Montessori Education Week

Many schools for years have celebrated a Montessori Education Week as a time to have people come in and look at their school, open house, spend a day with your child at school, guest speakers, etc.  Many times telling the local media that it is Montessori Education Week, encourages them to come and do a story on your school or class.

In 1995 MACTE, The Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (now called International Association for Montessori Education - IAME), decided to establish a uniform date for Montessori Education Week (the last week in February), so schools, training centers, and Montessorians could all celebrate at the same time and Montessori Education could get more national/international recognition!

In 1999 a new 3 year Montessori cycle about the theme Excellence begins (which was proposed by a Montessori art teacher). Each year has its own theme:

A Promotion Kit (video, poster, idea booklet), which could make your job easier, can be ordered from the official Montessori Education Week home page.

Also look for the information on the search for a design for Montessori Education Week 2000 at that web site. The purpose of the drawings is of course, to get a design for the next years poster. But they hope that you will display your student's work in your school or local library during the time of Montessori Education Week and then take them down and send them to them. Who knows your school could earn a "Thank You" gift from one of the sponsors!
