Robert Mailhammer is Lecturer
in Linguistics in the School of
Humanities and Communication Arts, University of
Western Sydney.
Until 2011 Robert worked
as Assistant Professor in the Department of English at
Arizona State University. In 2010 Robert a postdoctoral
research fellowship awarded to him by the
Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation under the Feodor-Lynen
programme, which began in 2007 with a six-month postdoc
research stay at the University in Melbourne in 2007 and
continued at The Australian National University. The aim
of this project was to work on the documentation and
analysis of Amurdak, a nearly extinct Australian
Aboriginal language of Northern Arnhem Land. A book with
stories in Amurdak and English translations was published
in 2009. Future plans include a grammar and a dictionary
as well as more comparative and historical work. In 2008
and 2009 Robert worked as lecturer in English Linguistics
at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and the
University of Munich. From 2002 until 2007, Robert worked
at the Institute for German Philology and the Institute
for English Philology at the University of Munich after
receiving his M.A. in German Linguistics, English
Linguistics and German Literature there. Before that he
passed the State Board Exam for High School teachers for
the subjects English and German at the University of
Munich. He received his Ph. D. in the subjects Language
Theory and Applied Linguistics within the International
Ph. D. Programme (LIPP) in 2007 after defending his
dissertation on the morphology and etymology of ther
Germanic strong verbs with summa cum laude.
He has published a book,
co-authored a text collection, co-edited a book as well as
a special journal issue and written a number of research
articles in refereed journals and edited volumes. Robert's
work has been funded by the German Merit Foundation
(Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes), the University of
Munich, the DAAD, the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation
the Volkswagen Stiftung and the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft. Robert is a member of the Deutsche
Gesellschaft für Sprachwissenschaft, the Societas
Linguistica Europae as well as the Australian Society of
Linguistics.
Robert has taught at
undergraduate and graduate level at Arizona State
University, The Australian National University, the
University of Munich and the Catholic University of
Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Her has also presented his work at a
number of international conferences and has been invited
to give public lectures in Germany, Canada, the USA and
Australia.
In addition, Robert
Mailhammer has taught German and English as a freelance
teacher and in commercial language schools since 2002, and
has also conducted research on German Literature.
