Frank Boyd

Frank Boyd is Director of Creative Development for the BBC Learning and Innovation Division where he has responsibility for working with producers from across all departments to support the development of concepts, applications, and skills for new media.

The programmes are a collaboration between the BBC's Innovation and Learning, Interactive Television, Online and Imagineering departments. They set out to provide an experimental space for producers from radio, TV and Online to develop propositions for creating content in a multi-channel, multi-platform age. Frank is also Director of the European Multimedia Labs, which over the past 5 years has provided development opportunities for some of the most talented new media creatives in Europe.

In 1989 he set up the Arts Technology Centre, the first independent centre in the UK dedicated to creative applications of digital technology, which he directed for 10 years. Artec's programmes included the production of CD-ROMs, websites and installations, the provision of resources and research opportunities for artists as well as vocational training and educational projects. He has worked as a director, actor and workshop leader in professional theatre and education.

He was a founder member of the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards Committee and organised the UK's Digital Media Alliance (DMA). He has been a special adviser on new media to both the European Commission and the Council of Europe
