Call for contributions for the

Attention! 15thAlpine Glaciology Meeting (AGM)

to be held in Munich, Germany, 24 / 25 February 2011

You are cordially invited to the next Alpine Glaciology Meeting (AGM 2011) to be held at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Munich, Germany. The aim of this meeting is to exchange ideas, research concepts and results in the field of Alpine Glaciology. In particular young scientists are encouraged to present their work in progress. The working language is English, contributions are welcome in the form of oral presentations or posters. The deadline for submission and online registration is now delayed until the

4th of February 2011!

Presentations will start on 24 February 1000 o'clock, the closing session is planned on 25 February 1500 o'clock. There is no admission fee, so the cost to participate involves only travel and hotel expenditures. On the evening of 24 February we will gather for dinner at the Hofbräuhaus, to be covered by each participant.

An excursion to the top of Zugspitze (the highest peak of Germany) is planned on 26 February.

Attention!Panoramic view of glaciers at the Zillertal Alps

At the 10th September 2004 a new photograph of the state of the glaciers in the Zillertal Alps was taken by Dr. Christoph Mayer. M. Mayer is the successor of the Geodesist Hermann Rentsch, who has retired in 2004. You can here look at a 180°-panoramic view. Additional there are prepared motion pictures of the impressive melting back of the Hornkees and the Waxeggkees, using historical photographs from the year 1921 up to today.

Attention!Meteorological data of the climate station Vernagtbach online!

Here, some essential data from the automatic climate station Vernagtbach, situated at the end of the Ötztal valley at 2640 m, can be found online at "climate data". Data of the previous day are transmitted daily via SMS. The data of the previous 4 weeks and up to a 500 days period are compiled in retrospective figures. Additional there are links provided to get more information, e. g. an weather forecast to the Oetztal or images from webcams within the area. Additional a panoramic view of the Vernagtferner, taken from the summit of the Schwarzkoegele, will be shown.

Besides the „Orthophotomaps“ from 1990 and 1999 you can also download a pdf-copy of the historic map reprint of Sebastian Finsterwalder directly from Glaziologie.de (glaciology.de).

Attention!Video of the Venus-Transit in front of the sun on June 8th 2004!

Thanks to optimal weather conditions, the century event of the Venus-Transit in front of the sun could also be followed at the KfG in Munich. Here you find an motion picture of some photographs taken during the event with a digital camera.

Attention!Literature research (inquiries) with www.glaciology.de

Here at the KfG there is a large literature data base on the topics glaciers, meteorology, hydrology, etc., created and maintained by H.-D. Schwartz. The content of the Access-based data base can also be used from external interested parties via internet. Experimental inquiries can be carried out here , in a still rather provisional form.
