Sponsors

Since we have no income of our own, the Institute has been and is dependent on our sponsors and on the help of many other institutions and individuals for the financing of our projects

For the time since the Institute's location changed from Berkeley to Munich we would in particular like to emphasise the following:

  • The Münchener Universitätsgesellschaft

considerably facilitated the start-up in Munich through assistence in obtaining machines, books, microfilms.

  • The Landeszentralbank (Land Central Bank)

supported the maintenance of office machines with their donation and made possible the purchase of additional books.

  • The Free State of Bavaria

made possible the continuation of the work on the Summa Huguccionis, and the Distinctiones Monacenses, as well as another project, cataloguing the Institute's book holdings.

  • The
    Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich

made rooms, energy and furniture available even before the awarding of "Affiliated Institute status", thus making it possible for the institute to begin operations and welcome visiting research scholars.

  • The Kuttner Family

bore the costs for shipping the private library of Stephan Kuttner which, together with other materials, had been packed for the sea trip by the Tibbetts family in many months of work. Over and above that, a donation by Eva Kuttner made it possible for the Institute to obtain badly needed supplies.

  • The Spedition Johannes Birkart (haulage contractor)

transported the materials from the port of Hamburg to the University of Munich, and even provided the services of one of their employees, whose help was crucial in the process of customs clearance.

  • The Monumenta Germaniae Historica

has always been ready to listen to all the worries and problems, including  technical problems concerning the Institute's library and provided access to an electronic library catalogue system.

  • The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) [German Research Association]

provided longterm financial support of the work of E. Vodala and later L. Kéry on "Die kirchenrechtlichen Grundlagen des modernen Strafrechts" (transl. Fundamental Principles of Canonical Law in Modern Criminal Law)as part of a larger project and thus enabled the original mission of Stephan Kuttner to be continued; additionally the DFG has supported the continuation of the research on pre-Gratian Canonical Collections by L. Fowler-Magerl. This project deals mainly with the Italian collections, including the installation of an appropriate database.
Since 2006 the DFG has also supported the research on the Collectio Cheltenhamensis done by P.D. Gisela Drossbach.

  • The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen and Halbach Foundation

made possible the organization of Stephan Kuttner's correspondence and of his off-print collection, the work on the Francofortana  and the Holtzmann estates as well as the purchase of necessary books and supplies and, most importantly  paying the staff: PD Dr. Gisela Drossbach, Birgit Gilcher, M.A., Johannes Raue and Michaela Bodenstab.

  • The Gerda-Henkel-Foundation

whose support allowed L. Kéry to carry out further analysis and the completion of "Die kirchenrechtlichen Grundlagen des modernen Strafrechts" (transl. Fundamental Principles of Canonical Law in Modern Criminal Law). They also have provided  financial support for the "Vatican Manuscript Project", at present outsourced to the University of Leipzig, Prof. Gero Dolezalek.

To all of these, as well as to the other, mostly anonymous supporters, we would like to express our most sincere gratitude.
