ANSYS Configuration

LRZ installation (SuperMIG and Linux Cluster)

Starting with version 12.0 every user of ANSYS Inc. products has to specify the type of the required ANSYS license in his own profile. Therefore "Academic License" has to be set before starting the first Ansys call.

  > module load [ansys/cfx/icem/fluent]
  > anslic_admin

  • "Set License Preferences for User xxxxxx"
  • check out "Use Academic Licenses"
This setting needs to be done only once and will then be used by all ANSYS Inc. products starting version 12.0 (Ansys, CFX, ICEM, Fluent).

Local Installation

Using a local installation the local license client has to be configured. The name of the LRZ license server is:

  licansys.lrz.de

The port numbers 1055, 1056, 2325 are used for communication between client and server and have to be therefore included in the exceptions of an existing firewall.

Configuration of the local license client

Version 11

Which license server to be used is specified using

  • the local file license.dat - which must contain the following two lines:
    SERVER licansys.lrz.de ANY 1055
    USE_SERVER
  • the environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE:
    LM_LICENSE_FILE=1055@licansys.lrz.de
  • or the ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility (s.a. version 12)

Starting Version 12

Configuration with the ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility

  • start anslic_admin (Linux) resp. (Server) ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility (Windows)
  • button  "Specify the License Server Machine"
  • button  "Add Server Machine Specification"
  • "ANSYS Licensing Interconnect port number:" -> 2325
  • "ANSYS FLEXlm port number:" -> 1055
  • "Hostname 1:" -> licansys.lrz.de

Finally, to use the licenses the "Ansys License Interconnect Process" may need to be started. This process must be configured and started only once and will then start again with every reboot of the machine it is running on. (Hint: On Windows systems the license manager needs to be installed separately.)
To configure the Interconnect Process use the ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility

  • start anslic_admin (Linux) resp. (Server) ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility (Windows)
  • button "Run the License Wizard"
  • check out "Run the ANSYS Licensing Interconnect without FLEXlm"
  • button "Continue" (several times)
  • button "Exit"

Access to the licenses

Only registered users are allowed to check out licenses from the LRZ license server. There are two ways to get access to the licenses:

  1. Enabling/reserving licenses based on IP-addresses or subnets
    In this case the "Ansys License Interconnect Process" must be started (see above).
  2. Enabling/reserving licenses based on user names
    In this case a list of user names must be submitted to the LRZ. Please, do not use common names, e.g. "Administrator", "root" etc.! Based on these user names the access will be activated. No further actions are required by the user (standard on SuperMIG and Linux Cluster).
