kommt nochWLAN setting under Windows on Centrino notebook
Centrino (or Centrino Mobile Technology) is the Intel notebook platform that combines processor, mainboard chipset and WLAN for notebooks based on Intel products.
These systems do not require much configuring. The most important factor is to set the SSID (network name). When using the VPN, select lrz, otherwise use eduroam. Some notebook manufacturers such as IBM install their own network configuration tools on their systems. We still recommend that you first follow these instructions, namely use the native Windows configuration. If this is not successful, please follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
First of all, ensure that the WLAN is activated on the notebook. Some devices have a hardware switch (see manual); set this to ON. With other types of devices, a key combination (usually the Fn+function key) is used to switch the wireless adapter on and off.
While the following instructions apply for a Windows XP system with service pack 3 installed, they can also be used for more recent versions of Windows.
When you see the symbol for the wireless connection
in the tray area (bottom right), click on it.

Double-click on lrz to establish a connection.
If this does not work, a setting is probably incorrect. Open the Properties window for the Wireless network connection:
Start -> Connect to -> Wireless network connection -> (right-click) Properties
You can also access the window via the Network and share centre by clicking on Change adapter settings.

The following window appears:

Click on the tab Wireless networks. As shown in the image, the field Use Windows to configure settings must be activated.

Then click on Add and enter lrz as network name. Network authentication must remain Open, Data encryption must be set to Deactivated. The field This is a computer-to- computer network must remain disabled..

Then click on OK.
The window Properties of the wireless network connection should now look as follows:

Now click on the tab General and then double-click on Internet protocol (TCP/IP) in order to check the address assignment setting. The checkboxes Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically must be ticked.

Click on OK to close the window.
If you are in the service area of an LRZ access point, you should now be able to see the symbol for an activated connection in the system tray at the bottom right of the screen.

To check whether you have also been assigned an IP address, enter the command ipconfig in a command prompt window (Start->Execute cmd). An address starting with 10. should be listed under Ethernet adapter wireless network connection.

A VPN connection now has to be established to connect to the Internet. Read our instructions at http://www.lrz.de/services/netz/mobil/vpn/ipsec-win/.
As an alternative to VPN, eduroam can also be configured for WLAN connections; you will find instructions at http://www.lrz.de/services/netz/mobil/eduroam/.
