Virtual Earthquake and Seismology Research Community in Europe (VERCE)

Verce Logo

VERCE is developing an e-science environment for data-intensive seismic applications to enable innovative data analysis and data modelling methods that fully exploit the increasing wealth of open data generated by the observational and monitoring systems of the global seismology community. The VERCE environment builds upon a service-oriented architecture and a data-intensive platform delivering services, workflow tools, and software as a service to integrate the distributed European public data and computing infrastructures (HPC, grid and cloud) with private resources and the European integrated data archives of the seismology community.

The LRZ is leading WP2 “Integration and evaluation of the platform services”, which has the curial role of quality assessing and testing of software modules to be integrated into the platform. WP2 is performing regular release cycles with a fixed frequency of six months to ensure that only fully functional and compatible software is integrated into the VERCE e-science environment.

Highlights

VERCE also conducted successfully two web-training sessions in July where LRZ was actively involved in both, the frontend and backend. An introduction to the resources hosted at LRZ and our in-house tools and services were given. LRZ’s excellent background support and supercomputing facilities from both the DRG and HPC groups were paramount to the success of the training.
